Necessary Tools For Draining The Torque Converter

Have the following tools/supplies on hand:

Bucket for oil drainage.
Funnel.
Transmission oil.
Flare tool.
Screw driver.
Socket wrench.
Vehicle’s manual.

Step 1. Disconnect Transmission Cooling Line

There are two different ways to perform this task, so refer to the vehicle’s manual before draining your torque converter.
Start by disconnecting the transmission cooling line, which is typically connected to the radiator.
A flare tool may be needed for this task.
The engine flex plate may need to be removed in order to gain access to the transmission ‘return’ cooling line.
